The LITH Historical Society brings together people interested in the history of the Village of Lake in the Hills; to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate that history; to preserve such material and provide for its accessibility; to disseminate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publicizing historical material; and to rescue and restore for reuse historic landmarks and structures.

The LITH Historical Society was established October 14th 1994. It is a designated a 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit corporation.

In 1998, the society saved a farmhouse, c.1870, from demolition. With many hours of volunteer work and donations, the Labahn-Hain House opened it's doors to the public in 2001.Village-owned, it is rented out for parties, showers, meetings and events. A pre-school uses the facility Monday through Friday. That same year, the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission presented the building with an award for "Outstanding Preserved Original Residence with Adaptive Reuse". In 2006, when a farmstead was being dismantled for park land, the society saved and restored a Chicken Brooder, c.1878.

The Historical Society has held Photo Contests, provides window displays at the Village Hall and Labahn-Hain House and sells Lake in the Hills license plate holders and annual Christmas ornaments of historic structures as a means of raising funds.
